Join Pitt Program Council and Black Action Society for “An Evening with Jurnee Smollett” at 8:30 pm on February 2nd, 2022 in the Assembly Room of the William Pitt Union. The event will last 1-hour and include a 45-minute moderated Q&A and 15 minutes for audience questions. Tickets will not be required for the event and the doors will open at 7:30 pm.

Jurnee Smollett is an award-winning actress and activist of rare talent and conviction. She will next be seen playing the female lead in the first season of the HBO series LOVECRAFT COUNTRY for writer/producer Misha Green, and producers JJ Abrams and Jordan Peele. Earlier this year she played the role of “Black Canary” opposite Margot Robbie in the “Harley Quinn” spinoff film for Warner Bros., BIRDS OF PREY. Jurnee received critical acclaim for her starring role in the WGN series “Underground” for two seasons, including nominations for two NAACP Image Awards for ‘Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.’ Additionally, she starred in “The Great Debaters” opposite Forest Whitaker and Denzel Washington, which was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Picture, and for which Jurnee won the NAACP Image Award for ‘Outstanding Lead Actress in a Motion Picture.’ Her select television credits include starring in NBC’s award-winning series “Friday Night Lights,” HBO’s hit series “True Blood” and NBC’s “Parenthood” and the CBS Access limited series “The Twilight Zone.” Making her breakthrough performance at the age of 11 starring in “Eve’s Bayou” opposite Samuel L. Jackson, Jurnee won the Broadcast Film Critics Award for ‘Best Youth Performance’ and was cited by Interview Magazine as one of five Hollywood stars to watch in the new millennium.
