Take a blast to the past and find yourself in room 416 in the William Pitt Union, an office that once served as the headquarters of Telefact. Telefact was a free, student-run telephone hotline on campus from 1990-2013 in which students could call and ask any question, and Telefact operators would search the Internet or old book and newspaper archives for the answer – a true Google before Google. Questions ranged from boring and unoriginal to strange and outlandish and the service even became a source of insider knowledge and traditions for Pitt students. In its prime, Telefact received about 100,000 calls a year.
Armed with 100 questions students asked to the former hotline, the Pitt Program Council is proud to (virtually!) present Fast Facts with Telefacts Trivia. With the help of our trusty sidekick, Kahoot!, come spend your Friday evening putting your knowledge of all things random and bizarre to the test. We’ll split the questions into two separate rounds of 50 questions each, and the first-place winners will each win a 1990s Retro Candy Gift Box!
Students may join the Zoom Webinar to play Trivia here – both rounds will be played on the same link! Students MUST be logged in through their Pitt accounts via the SSO log-in option on Zoom, and their full name must be shown as their screen name so that student identity can be verified.
All Pitt Program Council events are open to all undergraduate University of Pittsburgh Oakland campus students with a valid Student ID. Students with disabilities are encouraged to contact the Pitt Program Council at firstname.lastname@example.org for proper accommodations. Any questions regarding the event can be directed to the Executive Board Director, Quincey Johnston, at email@example.com.
